A Pebble in My Shoe

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

I had an itty, bitty pebble
Stuck inside my shoe.
I thought it wouldn’t bother me,
But that just wasn’t true.

Cuz every time I took a step,
It dug into my heel;
And by the time that I got home,
Was all that I could feel.

I pulled my shoe off, found that pebble –
Just a tiny grain.
Who would’ve thought something so small
Would cause me so much pain.

Sin can be like that, too. At first
It may seem very small.
But if you let it stay, it won’t be
Very long at all

Before that sin begins to impact
All you say and do;
Just like that tiny pebble hidden
Deep inside my shoe.

So root that sin out, right away.
It must not be ignored.
Cuz even little sins will hinder
Walking with the Lord.

“Temptation comes from our own desires,
which entice us and drag us away.
These desires give birth to sinful actions.
And when sin is allowed to grow,
it gives birth to death.”
James 1:14-15 NLT
