“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me
to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
that they might be called trees of righteousness,
the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”
See how beauty blossoms, now,
Where ashes once had lain.
Feel the oil of joy that soothes
The piercing sting of pain;
Hear the songs of praise that drown
The heaviness of loss;
As the righteous stand beneath
The shadow of the cross.
For The Lord, Himself, has come
To set the captive free,
Open prison doors and then
Proclaim, “Sweet Liberty!”
He has loosened chains that bound
The broken hearts in sin;
Given them a joy and peace
That come from only Him.
Praise Him, then, you ransomed ones,
Whose chains have been undone!
Praise the Savior, King of Kings,
God’s own Beloved Son!
Praise Him with each breath you take
As now, you finally see
The Son, Himself, has made you free,
So you are free, indeed!
“If the Son therefore shall make you free,
ye shall be free indeed.”
