I wasn’t seeking more from God,
But He came seeking me.
I’d been content to drift along
I went to church, studied God’s Word,
And spent some time in prayer.
But one day sensed that God would have me
Linger longer there.
It never really dawned on me
God might have things to say
If I would pause enough to listen
When I stopped to pray.
I’ve since learned that those quiet times
Are meant to go both ways;
That I can cast my cares on Him,
And offer words of praise.
But then, I must be quiet, too,
And listen for His voice.
Now I can’t wait for time alone
To shut out all the noise
So I can hear my Father speak
Both through His Word and prayer;
And know how much He loves me as
He comes to meet me there.
How precious is our God, that He
Would care enough to say,
“I love you!” to a heart that’s listening
For His voice, today.
“the sheep hear his voice;
and he calls his own sheep by name…
and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”
