A Tug on the Leash

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

My Pyrenees does pretty well
When walking on a leash;
But sometimes, when she gets too eager –
Pulls ahead of me.

And other times, she gets distracted.
Then she falls behind,
And needs a tug, reminding her
The pace we’re on is mine.

She’s pretty smart, but there are things
She just can’t understand.
So she must learn submission to
My firm, but loving hand.

And oh, how I am like that, too –
Not keeping with God’s pace.
I come to take for granted His
Forgiveness, love, and grace.

I run ahead or fall behind,
Distracted from His lead.
And sometimes God’s almighty tug
Is what I really need.

So if God feels the need to tug,
I’ll yield, just as I should;
‘Cause God just wants the best, for me -
That tug is for my good.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
think about Him in all your ways,
and He will guide you on the right paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 HCSB

I firmly believe that the Lord orchestrates many of our stumbles. Glad He brought you here! And I do hope you'll come back often. :-)
