Puddle Dwellers

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Ducks in a puddle,
Complacent as can be;
But never even realizing
Where they’re meant to be.

For if they hadn’t stopped short,
They surely would have seen
The lovely pond awaiting them,
To meet their every need.

But in their haste or laziness,
They settled for that spot;
And wondered why God’s bounty
Was somewhere they were not.

Let’s not be like those silly ducks,
Who stopped at second best.
Our Promised Land is waiting…
In Christ, we can be blessed!

But there’s a charge we’re given –
To go and take the Land.
No time to stop for puddles;
Our calling is at hand!

“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands,
let us be careful that none of you be found
to have fallen short of it.”
Hebrews 4:1 NIV
