It was for me that Jesus died –
Was beaten, mocked, and crucified.
It was my sin that nailed Him there;
Each accusation laying bare
His tortured flesh, for all to see.
And yet, He did it all for me.
And not because of what I am,
For I was just a stubborn lamb;
And if left to my own accord,
Would not have thought to seek the Lord.
And yet, He chose to love me, still;
To call my name, and bend my will
Until my blinded eyes could see
Just what He’d done, upon that tree.
Yes, now He has removed my shame;
Has given me a brand new name –
That of the One to whom I owe
My life, my love, my heart and soul.
And gladly will I pledge Him these,
Because He did it all for me.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
