Two Paths

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

There were two paths that lay before me;
Each looked straight and true.
It didn’t seem to matter much,
So I felt free to choose.

The one I chose seemed pretty good –
Some blessings on my way.
But I sensed there was something wrong
As I went through my day.

And as I knelt, later that night,
To spend some time in prayer,
Again, I sensed a certain sadness
Lingering in the air.

“What is it, Lord?” I meekly asked,
As I began to pray.
And this gentle rebuke I heard:
“I thought you’d choose My way…”

Then tears began to softly flow,
As I could clearly see
I’d chosen my own way, again.
And yet, He still loved me.

How very precious, Lord, You are;
To take me by the hand,
And gently right my many wrongs
So I will understand.

I know Your way is always best.
Next time, I’ll have You lead;
And then, with joy, I’ll follow in
The path You choose for me.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
