Reflections on Grace

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

I went back to the Garden today -
The place where Jesus knelt to pray
And asked to have the cup removed;
But in humble submission proved
His love for all the world …for me.
Such wondrous grace! How can it be?

I went back to the cross today -
The place where Love was on display;
Where sin’s great debt was satisfied
As Jesus bled. Forgave. Then died.
He stayed there on that cross for me.
Such wondrous grace! How can it be?

I went back to the tomb today –
Where Mercy rolled the stone away;
And found it still an empty room.
For He did not stay in that tomb,
But rose to set sin’s captives free.
Such wondrous grace! How can it be?

I sank down to my knees today;
And let my heart again replay
That dark night in Gethsemane,
His gruesome death on Calvary,
The empty tomb… and all for me.
Such wondrous Grace! How can it be?!

“For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life.”
Ephesians 2:8, John 3:16 NKJV
