No Armor for Ostriches

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Satan’s the defeated one –
Already he has lost
Because of what our Savior did
On Calvary’s rugged cross.

But just ‘cause he’s defeated, we
Must not let down our guard.
He still wages a battle,
Coming at us fast and hard.

And that’s just what our armor’s for –
Protection in the fray,
To ward off Satan’s fiery darts
He’s hurling day by day.

But keep in mind, if you just stick
Your head down in the sand,
And hope that he will go away,
You might rethink your plan.

‘Cause when your head is buried, then
Your backside is exposed.
And though there’s lots of armor,
There’s no piece to cover those.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies,
but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world,
against mighty powers in this dark world,
and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor
so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.
Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”
Ephesians 6:12-13 NLT
