For Whom the Hawk Swoops

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

A guinea hen was trying to cross
A very busy road.
The cars were swerving all around
To give her room to go.

But just about the time she made it
To the other side,
A red-tailed hawk swooped in and took
That poor hen for a ride.

My son observed it must have been
That guinea’s time to go.
I thought a moment, and agreed
That it was surely so.

So here’s a question I would pose -
Don’t laugh, but think it through…
Would you be ready if that hawk
Came swooping down, for you?

“Teach us to realize the brevity of life,
so that we may grow in wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12 NLT
