Like Watching for Birthday Snow

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

When I was little, like most kids,
I kept wanting to know
When my birthday was coming.
Mom would say, “Watch for the snow.”
So then for weeks I’d keep my eyes
Faithfully on the sky,
Just waiting for those first snowflakes
To finally start to fly.
These days there is another big
Event that lies in store.
A great reunion up in Heaven’s
What I’m looking for;
That day when Christ returns to earth
To say its suppertime...
And He’s already told us what to look for.
There’ll be signs.
So now it isn’t snowflakes
I am seeking in the sky.
It is an angel with a trumpet
Beckoning the Bride.
And on that day, oh what a
Jubilation there will be.
As we begin to celebrate
For all eternity.
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven,
with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel
and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up
together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
