In My Father’s Arms

"Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long,
and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders."
Deuteronomy 33:12

“You remember when you were little and you fell asleep in the car,
your Daddy carried you into the house.
You were vaguely aware of his strong arms
carrying you from one place to another.
Yet you had no fear that he would drop you -
that is how it is with Father God.
We should have no fear as He carries us from one place to another in life.”

When I was young, I’d sometimes fall asleep
Not in my bed, but in our comfy chair;
And daddy would reach down to scoop me up
Into his sturdy arms, with tender care.
And seemingly without the slightest strain,
He’d carry me up to my little bed;
Would lay me gently down, and tuck me in;
Then stroke the wayward curls upon my head.

And I would never fear that I would fall,
As up the stairs he carefully would climb,
Because I’d learned to trust my daddy’s arms.
In fact, I’m sure there might have been a time
When I was not asleep, but closed my eyes
Pretending I had fallen fast asleep.
And looking back, perhaps he knew it well,
But loved those moments just as much as me.

Those days have long since passed, and I have grown.
But still I have a Father who is strong.
His arms can bear me up, and carry me
Back to His precious side, where I belong.
And in His arms, I always feel secure;
I will not fear, no matter where we go,
For He has proven I can trust in Him;
And that no matter what, He loves me so.

So in my Father’s arms I’ll calmly rest;
Wherever He may carry me is best.

“The eternal God is your refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;”
Deuteronomy 33:27
