Not the Only Cloud in the Sky

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Solitary cotton ball
Floating through the sky,
Wondering why he’s all alone,
No other clouds nearby;
But never worrying one bit,
Just simply floating on;
Doing what he’s made to do,
And has done, all along.
That little cloud just couldn’t see
That just beyond the trees
A myriad of clouds were forming,
Floating on the breeze.
No, he was not alone.
And, friend, we have company, too.
For God has said His Spirit will be
Inside me and you.
Not only that, but there’s a cloud
Of saints who cheer us on;
Who’ve walked this way before us –
Know the road we walk upon.
So never think you’re all alone.
Picture that cloud, today,
Surrounded by the other clouds
That were not far away.
That’s just how God wants you to feel –
Surrounded by His love,
And cheered on by a mighty cloud
Of saints in Heaven above.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”
Hebrews 12:1 NIV
