Your Emmaus Road

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

When you are walking down a lonely road,
Do not forget that Jesus walks with you.
He’s there to help you bear your heavy load;
And to reveal His promises are true.

You may not recognize Him right away;
For sometimes fear or sorrow veils your eyes.
So you see only trials, in the way,
Instead of all the grace that He supplies.

But if you could just see behind the veil,
You’d know the Stranger walking, there, with you.
He’ll let you touch the imprints of the nails,
Reminding you that He once suffered, too.

And that is why He walks beside you now -
To comfort and encourage you, today;
And to remind you of His solemn vow:
He’s never more than just a prayer away.

“So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near
and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
And He said to them, ‘What kind of conversation is this that you have
with one another as you walk and are sad?’”
Luke 24:15-17 NKJV

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”
Hebrews 13:5b NKJV
