Ain’t No Flies on Me

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

There ain’t no flies on me,
Cuz I ain’t sittin’ still.
I’m pressin’ onward toward that mark,
Just followin’ God’s will.
I won’t be lookin’ backward
At what is in the past;
‘Cept for the lessons I have learned -
I’ve gotta make those last!
And you won’t find me restin’,
Unless God tells me to.
But sometimes He just lets me know
That’s what I need to do.
Then after I’ve done set a spell,
And spent some time with Him,
It’s time that I get back to pressin’
Onward once again.
And what a joy I find, there,
Cuz God is at my side.
I’ll try to keep in step with Him,
And match Him, stride for stride.
So flies, go find some other critter
You can land upon;
Cuz I won’t sit still long enough.
With God, I’m pressin’ on!
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet
to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do:
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
