Before the Miracle

“Then they took away the stone
from the place where the dead man was lying.
And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said,
‘Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.’”
John 11:41

“Thanksgiving always precedes the miracle.”

My friend, can you be thankful
Before the answer comes?
Can you praise God, as Jesus did,
Before the battle’s won?

Yes, thoughts of deepest gratitude
Were found in Jesus’ words
Before He brought His friend to life;
Christ knew His Father heard.

And we have that assurance,
When asking in His will -
That our prayers will be answered.
He does miracles, still!

Do we have faith to praise first?
His grace is plentiful.
Let’s practice giving thanks, my friend,
Before the miracle.

“In every thing give thanks:
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
