Sunday School’s for Grown-Ups, Too

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Most of life’s important stuff,
I learned in Sunday School –
I learned to love, be kind, forgive;
I learned the Golden Rule.
I learned that Jesus loves me
And He died cuz of my sin,
But that God will forgive me when
I place my trust in Him.
And now that I’m a grown-up
I still go to Sunday school,
Cuz that’s where I’m reminded how
To live the Golden Rule.
I get some reinforcement to
Be kind, love, and forgive.
I’m challenged to keep living like
My great Example did.
Cuz “what would Jesus do” is not
Just words to glibly say.
It is the way I try to live
In church and every day.
And Sunday School has always been
The place to which I’ve turned
To start my week off right so I
Can live out what I’ve learned.
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
Acts 2:42 NIV
