A New Dawn

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;”
Ecclesiastes 3:1,4

How can the sun still choose to rise, today?
Does it not see my world in disarray;
Could it not pause for just a moment’s time,
Acknowledging this heartache that is mine?

And yet, it chooses still to lend its light;
To seep into the darkness of the night,
And blend its rosy dawn into the gray
As all about, the world goes on its way.

It has been said that joy comes in the morn.
But with the dawn, my heart, still bruised and torn,
Is not yet ready to release the pain,
Or wipe away the salty, teary stain.

But with the mercy of each dawning day,
The pain will surely start to fade away;
And sweeter memories will take its place,
As God supplies His joy, His peace, His grace.

And in the void left by the one who’s gone
Will one day be the joy of a new dawn.

“Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:5b
