Giving Him Back

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

I long to hold his hand, Lord…just once more;
To sit quietly beside him, as before;
To feel his breath, so warm upon my skin;
And hear him say he loves me, once again.
I long to hear his voice call out my name;
Or hear him sing just one more sweet refrain;
To see that smile creep up into his eyes,
When I come close hug him, oh, so tight.
Oh Lord, I miss him so much, I could die.
I’ve cried so long, my tears are running dry.
All that is left – to place him in Your hands;
And trust that this is all within Your plan.
So now, dear Lord, I’ll give him back to You.
Give him my love. And Lord…I love You, too.
“This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope.
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.”
