God’s Family Tree

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

God’s got a crazy family tree
With branches grafted in.
Those branches come from different trees;
But all bear fruit for Him
And though the branches may look different,
Their fruit’s much the same
Because they’re all connected to
The vine that bears His name.
And it’s His blood that’s coursing through
Each branch that’s in the vine;
So fruit that is produced will be
Delightful, pure, divine.
I’m part of Jesus’ family tree,
And proudly bear the mark
Of where my branch was grafted in
To blend in with His bark.
And I must stay connected to
The life that’s in the Vine
If I want to continue bearing
Fruit of His design.
My friend, can you say you’re a branch
In Jesus’ family tree?
I hope to see you grafted in –
There’s room right next to me…
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
Remain in me, as I also remain in you.
No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.
Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
I am the vine; you are the branches.
If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;
apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:1, 4-5 NIV
