"Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:"
Psalm 139:23
I looked in my new mirror,
And liked what I did see
For it was Satan’s mirror
Of dull complacency.
I sure looked good enough, there;
For it hid “little” sins;
And let me overlook those ones
I’d buried deep within.
I found another mirror –
Looked good in that one, too;
Cuz it compared me to my neighbor,
Not, dear Lord, to You.
But there was one more mirror
You wanted me to see.
It showed a true reflection
Of what’s inside of me.
I shuddered, as I looked there.
But then, another face
Soon joined me in that mirror,
And it held love and grace.
As I recalled the other
Mirrors I had seen,
I longed for Your true mirror
To show me pure and clean.
You told me that this mirror
Reflects what’s in the heart;
And asking Your forgiveness
Was just the place to start.
Then as I slowly opened
My eyes, after I prayed,
I stared in joy and wonder at
The difference You had made.
For now, in my new mirror,
There was no sign of me…
Just Your reflection, Jesus;
The way it needs to be.
"But we all, with unveiled face,
beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
just as by the Spirit of the Lord.":
2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV
