(written the morning
of my Uncle Tony’s memorial service)
It’s a beautiful day, today;
For my God is in control.
He has lavished His grace upon me;
And there’s peace within my soul.
And that peace passes all understanding,
When the cares of this world press in,
When the dearest to me has been lost,
When I’m left to go on, without him.
Yes, the tears may continue to flow;
But His mercies are new, every morn.
And He gives me the grace that I need;
Sufficient to stand, through the storm.
And I know that the storm clouds will pass,
When my Good Shepherd wipes them away.
That is how I can smile through my tears,
And declare, “It’s a beautiful day!”
“This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope.
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:21-23 NKJV
by Lisa (Kesinger) DeVinney, for my Uncle Tony
Inspired by 3 year old, Addy Humfleet,
who told her Poppy, just several days before he passed away, that she knew he didn’t feel good;
and that he should just let his breath go, and it would be a beautiful day.
On the morning of November 8, 2011, Addy woke up and said, “It’s a beautiful day!”
What Addy had not yet been told was that “Poppy” Tony Humfleet
had been called to Heaven only hours earlier.
For Poppy, it was, indeed, a beautiful day.
