When the Miracle is Grace

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

It’s easy to be thankful when
God answers right away,
And when he sends the miracles
We ask for when we pray.

But what about those times it seems
Our prayer’s been lost in space?
Friend, will we still be thankful when
The miracle is grace?

A mother has a healthy babe –
We thank God that they came.
But when we lose one in the womb…
Can we still praise God’s name?

We’re thankful when God sends a rescue
In the nick of time.
But when He chooses not to, then
Do we feel He’s unkind?

When we use circumstances as
A measure of God’s love,
We may be missing many blessings
Sent down from above.

For sometimes God will send sufficient
Grace to see us through.
And that, friend, is a miracle –
A gift from God’s hand, too.

So next time we are desperate for
Some miracle to come,
We’re looking for God’s hand to move
To help us overcome,

Let’s keep in mind God’s hand may move
A different time or place,
So we can then be thankful when
The miracle is grace.

“I was given a thorn in my flesh…
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:7-9a NIV
