Though only just a breath away,
O Lord, it seems like miles, today.
For sin I've harbored in my heart
Has driven us so far apart.
And Lord, it is not You that moved.
The promises from Your Word prove
That You will never leave my side.
It's me that chose not to abide
Beneath Your wing.  And oh the pain
This wretched freedom has obtained.
I long, Lord, to be bound to You
Again; our fellowship renewed.
So search my heart, and try me, Lord.
Then bind me with Your gracious cord
Till I am tightly held, again,
Within Your righteous, nail-scarred hand;
Content to stay, and be at rest
There with the One who loves me best.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting."
Psalm 139:23-24
