Heaven Surely Cried (0n Christmas Day)

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

I think that heaven surely must have cried,
A sad-sweet tear of joy mingled with pain.
As God the Son laid kingly robes aside,
And Heaven’s loss was mankind’s dearest gain.

I wonder if the Father cried that day.
With knowledge of the anguish that would come;
But then, in His great love and pride, displayed
His greatest joy – His own beloved Son.

I know my Heavenly Father loves me so;
To give so great a gift, at such a price!
Oh, how can I repay the debt I owe?
I can’t…
              Instead, I’ll give to Him my life.

Then He, with tears of joy and not of pain,
Will know His precious gift was not in vain.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16
