A Sense of Grace

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“…forgiveness is larger than faults,
and the grace of my girl — in the crook of my arm —
evicted the guilt in my heart.
I closed my eyes, and breathed my prayers:
Out, guilt. In, grace.
(And grace smells like strawberry shampoo.)”

Some days grace smells like strawberry shampoo -
When harsh words are exchanged out of the blue;
But then forgiveness flows in an embrace,
As I breathe in the miracle of grace.

Some days grace feels like blessings pouring down
Like raindrops into dry and thirsty ground;
A sweet refreshing fills the barren space,
As I soak in the miracle of grace.

But one day, Grace hung on a rugged cross
Where, for a time, it seemed all had been lost.
But Christ went there to take this sinner’s place,
So I could know the miracle of grace.

And some day, up in Heaven I will see
The One who died and rose again for me.
And there I will be standing face to face
With Christ, Himself… the Miracle of Grace!

“But grow in grace,
and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and for ever.
Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18 KJV
