A Prayer Revelation

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Sometimes I fear my prayer-life
Is not what it should be.
And that’s because it’s upside-down:
I’m focused all on me;
To think of what to pray for,
And say just the right words
So I’ll get God’s attention,
And have my prayers heard.
But Lord, that’s not Your purpose
In calling me to prayer.
Instead, it’s to draw closer,
And meet Your Spirit, there.
The pressure isn’t on me
To think of what to pray.
I’m just to hear Your Spirit,
Then voice the things You say.
It’s then that I’ll be praying
According to Your will;
Not of my own design, Lord,
But prayers now Spirit-filled.
“Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request,
and stay alert in this with all perseverance
and intercession for all the saints;”
Ephesians 6:18 HCSB
