An Ear to Hear

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

The dryer finished and its buzzer long ago had sounded.
But I’d not heard it cuz of all the noises that surround us.
So now the clothes were wrinkled and there isn’t any doubt
They wouldn’t be if I had heard, and gotten them right out.
How very like the voice of God – for He indeed is speaking,
And can be heard by those who are intentionally seeking.
But if I have no ear to hear, for all the world’s distractions,
Then if I want to hear God’s voice, I’ve got to take some action.
And that involves more time with Him, where all is quiet and still,
So I can hear Him when He speaks, as He reveals His will.
I may not hear Him right away. But with more quiet time,
It is His voice I’ll learn to hear above the world’s and mine.
God wants me to spend time with Him, and has some things to say.
The question is will I make time to hear His voice today?
My expectation’s growing as I tune a listening ear;
For now that I know God is speaking, I long more to hear.
“If anyone has ears to hear, he should listen!” Mark 4:23 HCSB
“My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27 HCSB
