Time for a Divine Hearing Aid

“I appointed watchmen over you and said,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But you said, ‘We will not listen.’”
Jeremiah 6:17 NIV
“As we blatantly ignore and disobey God,
we build a callous around our spiritual ears
so that we don’t hear the voice of God.”
*Priscilla Shirer
The doctor said it was no wonder
That I couldn’t hear.
It seems a callous had developed
In my inner ear.
He shook his head quite knowingly,
Cuz he once had one, too.
He knew just what had caused it and
What I would need to do.
He said a callous starts to form
When we shut out God’s voice.
That over time it grows quite thick
From that repeated choice;
But not to fear, cuz there’s a cure –
It’s called obedience.
And it works best when it’s combined
With vast experience.
I went home to consider all
The doctor shared with me –
That if I want to hear God’s voice,
Obedience was key.
And it’s amazing how much better
I hear God, today,
Now that I choose to trust Him more,
To listen… and obey.
