Please Help My Unbelief

“I do believe;
help me overcome my unbelief!”
Mark 9:24b NIV

“My lack of faith in God’s desire to speak to my current situation
didn’t keep God from acting. It kept me from asking.”
*Priscilla Shirer

Perhaps it isn’t God who’s slow
To act on my behalf;
But rather, it’s my lack of faith,
And I have yet to ask.

Perhaps I know that God can speak,
But doubt He will to me;
Or feel my need’s not big enough
To even voice my plea.

But that is not the heart of God.
He says time and again
That I’m to trust His heart for me,
And bring my cares to Him.

While holding up the universe,
He sees the sparrow fall.
There’s no request too big for Him;
And there’s no need too small.

So if my prayer’s unanswered,
Maybe I should look within
To see if I have really asked,
Or doubted once again.

Then if it’s doubt, that’s just the place
To start with God in prayer;
And since He wants my faith to grow,
He’ll gladly meet me there.
