What Is It, Lord?

“Instead of ending my prayer time when my list is complete,
I wait and quiet my mind so I can move to a Spirit-led time of prayer…
[This] gives the Holy Spirit an opportunity to direct our prayer time…
He causes me to recall sins I didn’t realize or had forgotten I committed.”
*Priscilla Shirer

“Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me…”
Psalm 139:23-24 KJV

What is it, Lord, that grieves You so?
Please search my heart, that I might know
And lay the sin before Your throne,
Confessing it to You, alone.

For I desire that nothing be
A barrier for You and me.
And if there is sin, unconfessed,
My heart cannot be truly blessed.

But as I bring it, Lord, to You,
I know what, in Your grace, You’ll do.
You will forgive, and take away
The guilt that’s standing in the way.

Then with a heart cleansed and restored,
I’ll freely worship You, my Lord,
In fellowship sweetly divine –
Your Spirit speaking peace to mine.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation...”
From Psalm 51:1-12 KJV
