When God Wakens Me

“Stop now for a short time of meditation.
Read [Isaiah 50:4-5] slowly and personally.
Put your name into the verse…” *Priscilla Shirer

“The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom,
so that I know how to comfort the weary.
Morning by morning he wakens me
and opens my understanding to his will.
The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me,
    and I have listened.
I have not rebelled or turned away.”
Isaiah 50:4-5 NLT

When God wakes me in the morning
And rouses me from sleep,
Does my heart quicken to know that He
Awaits His time with me?

Am I anxious for the moments
I will spend with Him in prayer,
As with worship and thanksgiving
I will humbly meet Him there?

When my flesh would sink back into
Slumber’s soft and warm embrace,
Will my spirit overcome in its
Pursuit of Jesus’ face?

Oh, that my overwhelming thoughts
Would simply be of Him
Inviting me to join Him in
That quiet place within.

And there we two will greet the day,
With His hand holding mine
As He leads me before His throne –
Such precious, quiet time.
