A Bridge to Courage

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous?
Do not be afraid or discouraged,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 HCSB
Today I pray for courage –
That I might not draw back;
That I might not heed Satan’s voice,
Or yield to his attack.
But that in faith I’d step up
To what You’ve planned for me,
Take hold of Your intentions
For what is yet to be.
I pray that fear be vanquished,
For it is not of You;
And that the courage You supply
Will help me make it through.
For You know Your plans for me;
And I must trust Your grace.
You’ve built a bridge through faithfulness;
You’ve laid each plank in place.
It’s up to me to step out –
To cross that bridge You laid;
And not let fear constrain me,
Or crush the plans You’ve made.
Then as I cross the bridge, I’ll
Add planks of gratitude –
Reminders of how I’ve been blessed
By trusting, Lord, in You.
“Trust is the bridge from yesterday to tomorrow,
built with planks of thanks.”
