Before a Holy God

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“Fire blazed forth from the Lord’s presence…
When the people saw this, they shouted with joy
and fell face down on the ground..”
Leviticus 9:24 NLT
Down on my face, before a holy God;
Oh never could a lower plane e’er be.
But there I sense my Lord’s approving nod;
As His sweet Spirit ministers to me.
And there I wait, until He bids me come
To worship Him, before His throne of grace;
As on the wings of eagles I am borne
Into that quiet, holy, secret place.
There I would stay, and worship Him, alone,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be;
My Lord and Savior, gloriously enthroned
In earth and Heaven, for eternity.
And as sweet words of praise slip from my tongue,
I suddenly and humbly am aware
That God, Himself, the High and Holy One,
Has bowed Himself, to come and meet me there.
“Because he bends down to listen,
    I will pray as long as I have breath!”
Psalm 116:2 NLT
