Bound Together

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 KJV

[The Hebrew word translated “wait” in the KJV and “hope” in the NIV
literally means “bind together (perhaps by twisting).”]

If I should bind myself to Thee,
Together for eternity,
Then with Thy strength, mine is renewed
In every task Thou bidst me do.

For eagles’ wings will lift me high,
To rise above the cares of life;
To ride on winds that carry me
To shelters safe and warm, with Thee.

And when Thou sendest me with haste,
To serve Thee in another place,
I’ll not grow weary, for I know
That, bound together, we shall go.

And Lord, with Thee I shall not faint,
Though long and hard the path I take;
For I am waiting, Lord, on Thee
To walk that path, along with me.

So bound together we shall go.
Thou knowest, Lord, I love Thee so
For choosing to be joined with me,
Both now, and for eternity.
