Hearing Him Speak, Letting Him Lead

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“Sometimes nature speaks, telling me of God’s majesty and glory.
Sometimes God’s Word speaks, reminding me of what God wants me to know.
And sometimes the Spirit speaks…aligning me with God’s will.
I cannot control the voice of God or how it comes.
I can only control my ‘ears’ – my readiness to listen and quickness to respond.”
- Philip Yancey quoted by Priscilla Shirer*

God is speaking all the time;
And sometimes, if I listen,
Creation round me speaks of Him –
His power and glory glisten.

Sometimes it is His Word that shares
What He wants me to know.
And sometimes it’s His Holy Spirit
Prompting, “stay” or “go.”

I cannot tell when He might speak.
But I can tune my ear
For readiness to heed His call
When it’s His voice I hear.

And then it’s up to me to choose
Whether I will obey;
Surrendering my will to Him
That He might lead the way.

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God
are the children of God.”
Romans 8:14 NIV
