My Tribute

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

To stand there, on the canyon’s edge,
And marvel at the beauty of this land…
And yet, to know my mortal eyes
See just a speck of all that Thou hast planned.
And then, to think that I am just
A thing of dust, a single grain of sand
In all that pass the hourglass
Of time that sifts through Thy almighty hand.
Oh Lord, the very earth and sky
Still bow at Thine omnipotent command…
Yet here am I, Thy humble child,
To join the great, celestial angel band.
For I would add my simple voice
To all the praise Thy majesty hast fanned;
And pray that it would echo forth
From off this very rock on which I stand.
And oh, that it would reach, dear Lord, to Thee –
A tribute to Thy splendid majesty!
“Oh, the depth of the riches
both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments
and His ways past finding out!
‘For who has known the mind of the LORD?
Or who has become His counselor?’
For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things,
to whom be glory forever. Amen.”
