Elisha Eyes

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“And Elisha prayed, and said,
LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.
And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man;
and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full
of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”
2 Kings 6:17

Lord, give to each of us Elisha eyes –
To see the angels round us, day by day;
That we might see Your mighty hand at work,
And understand the power when we pray.

Then we would have no call to fear or doubt;
As, with Elisha, we could know Your grace.
For rather than our enemies, we’d see
Great myriads of angels in their place.

Such courage, then, would bolster our resolve
To stand up firm and brave against the foe
As we march side by side with Heaven’s throng,
And onward to the battle we would go.

“What shall we then say to these things?
If God be for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31
