Eyes on You

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“And when Peter had come down out of the boat,
he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid;
and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, ‘Lord, save me!’
And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him…”
Matthew 14:29-31 NKJV

Lord, I thought I had the faith,
But here I go, again -
Sinking, as the waves around me
Rise to pull me in.

Please, Lord, take my hand, again,
And draw me to Your side;
For only there can I find peace,
And in Your grace abide.

And Lord, I want to walk on water,
Just the way You do.
Next time I must remember
Just to keep my eyes on You.

So then, if You should call my name
To walk upon the sea,
My faith won’t be in my own strength,
But next time, Lord, in Thee.

“But my eyes are upon You, O GOD the Lord;
In You I take refuge…”
Psalm 141:8a NKJV
