Thanks Makes a Way

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

How can I give thanks to God
When things don’t turn out right;
When all I see around is darkness –
Cannot find the light?
And how can I have joy, you ask,
When crushed by sorrow’s load;
When doubt and fear beset me on
A hard and winding road?
Friend, gratitude and joy are not just feelings;
They’re a choice.
My heart can sink beneath the waves,
Or let God have a voice.
And His, through me, proclaims the truth –
That I’m redeemed and loved
By One who’s promised peace and joy;
And that, friend, is enough.
For if I seek God’s hand and find
The gifts He sends each day,
My joy will be made full in Him;
And thanks will make the way.
“Be anxious for nothing,
but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
