Keep a Wire on It

“There are some things we have to ‘keep a wire on’
so we don’t go back to old tendencies.
We need God to speak sustaining words over us.”
*Beth Moore
She finally got her braces off;
But learned to her surprise
That she’d need a retainer for
The rest of her whole life.
If not, her teeth would go back
Right where they used to be.
But with a wire on at night,
She’d keep those straightened teeth.
Sometimes temptation’s like that –
We have old tendencies
That we must keep a tight hold on,
Or we’re doomed to repeat.
But God is our Retainer,
To keep our hearts reigned in
So we won’t keep repeating
That old, besetting sin.
His Spirit will remind us
When we’re about to stray.
It’s up to us to listen
And choose, then, to obey.
“…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; “
Hebrews 12:1-2a KJV
