Whose Cross Do You Carry?

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

“Then Jesus said to his disciples,
‘If any of you wants to be my follower,
you must turn from your selfish ways,
take up your cross, and follow me.’”
Matthew 16:24 NLT

Sometimes we carry crosses that
We’ve fashioned on our own,
Instead of taking up the one
That’s waiting at God’s throne.

And when it’s of our own design,
We’ll crumble ‘neath its load
As no doubt we will stumble down
A rocky, prideful road.

But when the cross we bear instead
Is fashioned by the hands
That once were nailed to His own cross,
It’s then we’ll understand

That He’ll be there to help us shoulder
All we’re asked to bear.
His strength and joy will lift us as
We fall on Him, in prayer.

And His grace will sustain us though
The road be hard or long.
For when it is His cross we bear,
The task will make us strong.

“So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God,
keep on doing what is right,
and trust your lives to the God who created you,
for he will never fail you.”
1 Peter 4:19 NLT

So sweet of you to drop by, Glenys. Thanks so much for the encouragement. God bless you as you, too, write for Him. :-)
