Back to School

Fewer loads of dirty dishes,
Way less laundry, fewer messes,
Fewer groceries, smaller meals,
Way less noise, and lights, and wheels.

But that means fewer fun and games,
Goofy faces, silly names,
Movie nights, and road-trip days,
All their wily, winsome ways.

Yep… they’ve left for school, again;
Growing fast from boys to men.
Mostly out now, on their own,
But still come back, cuz this is home;

Not just because their stuff is here,
(Forever, maybe… that I fear!)
But cuz they know they’ll be loved much
With hugs, and cookies, smiles, and such.

They will not stay long; this I know.
So while they’re here, I’ll take things slow
And tuck new memories deep inside
To keep them close, as time goes by.

“So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12 NKJV
