Incubate My Faith

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Lord, place me gently in Your faith-incubator;
for mine, within this fleshly shell,
is very small…weak and vulnerable.
Then bathe me
with the penetrating light of Your Spirit,
and the warmth of Your love.
Protect me
from the enemy’s fiery darts
of doubt and discouragement,
that would pierce my fragile shell.
And as my faith begins to grow, Lord,
little by little, day by day,
send just enough nourishing trials
to help me grow,
without being overwhelmed
by more than I can bear.
And when my faith is ready, Lord,
crack my shell.
so I can stretch and grow even more;
till my faith is ready to test its tiny wings,
on the wind of the very Spirit
that has warmed, nourished, and protected me…
the same Wind that now sustains me
as I wing my way through the calm and storms of life;
sometimes soaring, sometimes struggling;
but always upheld by You.
“And the apostles said to the Lord,
‘Increase our faith.’”
