Lion Heart

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

There was a little kitten who
Was timid as could be.
He wouldn’t even chase a mouse,
For fear that it might squeak.

He’d watch the other kittens pounce,
And wish he were so brave;
But felt he didn’t have their courage,
And would shy away.

But one day, he looked in a puddle,
And ‘twas there he saw
A lion looking back at him,
So strong, and proud, and tall.

A handsome mane was round his face;
His paws were giant-sized.
And strength and courage glistened from
His king-sized, lion-eyes.

The kitten quickly whirled around
To see the giant beast.
But there was no one there beside
His little kitten feet.

And so, he peered back in the puddle.
Then, it dawned on him:
The lion in the puddle was
His own heart, deep within.

So from that day, he realized
He could do anything;
‘Cause he knew deep within him was
The courage of a king!

Now Christian, is there anything
You fear you cannot do?
Remember that the King’s own Spirit
Lives inside of you.

With His help, He promises
That we can do all things;
Because we are the children of
The mighty King of Kings!

“I can do all things through Christ
who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13
