Autumn’s Revelation

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

In autumn, when the leaves dry out, their colors are revealed.
For through the spring and summer their true nature is concealed
By chlorophyll, which keeps them green until fall comes around.
But as the leaves begin to dry, their colors, then, abound.
And so it is with us, that when those barren seasons come,
The truth of what is deep within will gain a loosened tongue.
And our true nature then will rise, responding to distress;
As our reaction then will be to either curse or bless.
Oh may I have the grace then, Lord, to trust that in those times
When days are dark and nights are long, Your hand’s still holding mine.
Then as we walk together through the trials along the way,
May all that pours out from my heart be true, unending praise.
“…For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him,
and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.”
Matthew 12:34-35 NIV
