In Times Like These

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

In times like these, when troubles seem
To press from every side,
I search for strength and comfort,
And a sheltered place to hide.
When even friends forsake me,
And there’s none to ease my way;
I learn to lean on Jesus –
Go to Him and simply say,
“I need You more than ever, Lord;
I’ve nowhere else to go.
Only Your strength can lift me up,
For in my heart I know
That You, and You alone,
Are what I’ve needed all along;
Both in the many good times,
And when things are going wrong.
So thank You, Lord, for being
Everything I’ll ever need;
For being right there, waiting,
When I finally hit my knees.
I love You, Lord. And next time
It won’t take me quite as long,
When trials start to press,
To come to You, where I belong.”
“Whom have I in heaven but you?
 I desire you more than anything on earth.
 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
 but God remains the strength of my heart;
 he is mine forever.”
Psalm 73:25-26 NLT
