Over the Ledge

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

Stepping off a precipice,
Into a great unknown;
Out from my own self-reliance,
From my comfort zone;
Into what seems an open chasm –
Dangers far below;
But as I take that giant leap,
There’s something that I know…
That though I cannot see it,
God’s almighty, loving hand
Is right there, at the ready;
And it’s in His grace I’ll land.
Sometimes that landing may be bumpy;
Others, soft and smooth.
But every time, that leap with God,
In faith, is what I’ll choose.
For who’s to say if I step back,
Away from that steep hill,
Another ledge won’t lay behind me –
One out of His will.
And who, then, would be there to catch me,
Falling in my pride?
No! I will trust my Savior’s voice,
And step out on His side.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”
