I walked along, in awe and praise,
with God Himself, the Ancient of Days.
I listened as He spoke to me
of His dear Son, and eternity.
He led me down a street of gold,
where I encountered saints of old.
The Tree of Life stretched overhead;
and by the tree, a river spread
out from His throne, so crystal clear
I felt compelled to wander near,
And reach my hand to touch the stream -
But found that it was all a dream.
I woke, as tears spilled from my eyes.
Oh, was I there, beyond the skies;
so near my Father’s heavenly throne,
with Him in His celestial home?
Ah, no. ‘Twas just a lovely dream.
But as I lay in bed, it seemed
That He was near me, just the same;
And whispering softly… just my name.
And oh, the peace that covered me
Like blankets, soft and swaddling;
Wrapped tightly in His warm embrace –
If only I could see His face…
If only just His face…
“I will lie down and sleep in peace…”
