The Thought of Thee

Written by Lisa DeVinney on . Posted in poetry

The thought of Thee is lovelier
Than any pen could tell;
Far lovelier than gardens where
The flowers of Heaven dwell;
More lovely, even, than the sun
When setting on the sea.
For Thou, O Lord, art lovelier
Than all of life, to me.

And if I were to walk along
A lovely garden path,
And find a sparrow taking in
An early morning bath,
My thoughts, O Lord, would turn at once
To lessons in Thy Word
Of how Thou carest even for
The tiniest of birds.

And what a blessing, Lord, to think
Such tender thoughts of Thee;
As I’m enraptured in the wonder
Of Thy majesty.
Be still my heart, for now I know
A love beyond compare;
And find, just at the thought of Thee,
I’m happy, anywhere.

“…he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved,
this is my friend…”
Song of Solomon 5:16 NIV
